Like Billy Fury I got my first guitar at 14, but unlike Billy though I did not persevere with learning how to play! Although I have loved music all my life, I finally learnt to play the guitar in '97. While having lessons from my friend Andy Simmonds I was inspired to write song lyrics as well. Another friend of mine, Preben Nielson and Kev Taylor later recorded the guitar tracks on my demos. Darren Green composed the music for me and between us my inspirations became songs.
I have since employed the talents of Tony Wade aka Doctor Voice to improve my singing style & I have also written some more songs in Country and Western genre as suggested by a promoter.
After negotiations with a promoter in Vegas I decided that as I was a big fan of Billy's I would work towards creating the most authentic Billy Fury tribute in the world bar none and started working on the songs right away. I also put together a tribute show using Billy Fury’s history using information on the Internet and sent the promoter my first demo to prove I could do it, in only six weeks. My first recordings were almost exactly as Billy Fury’s own recordings and I was using studio quality backing tracks. Since then I have been working on the tribute songs of which I now sing 39 and have now got the tribute songs to sound as authentic as possible, without actually being Billy Fury. Four years ago I had a slot on TV and later I got bookings for performances at various Kent Coast holiday camps. In the last few weeks I have been back in the studio to record some new material and to perfect some of my old favourites. theatres and of course to get a record deal of my own. |
